Pick Chair ֻ| Dror Benshetrit

2004, Designed for BBB, Materials: aluminum, Oak, 87X38X55 cm
Courtesy of the designer and BBB emmebonacinam - Gruppo sintesi S.p.A

The chair consists of metal frames with hinges and veneer-coated wood on which there are graphic images burnt by a laser engraver. The chair may be hung flat on the wall as a work of art or taken down and used as a chair when guests arrive. Shown at the first exhibition of the museum when it opened in 2010, the chair represented a broad design trend in particularly small living spaces, characterized by an emphasis on aesthetics and simple raw materials, as well as the artless way the material was used, without drawing attention to decorative elements or complicated mechanisms of operation. Works of this kind reflect the legacy of modernism, which has had a prolonged and consistent revival over recent years.

Dror Benshetrit (b. 1977 in Israel) is a multi disciplinary designer who received his education in design at the Eindhoven Academy in Holland. Today he is the owner of a design studio in New York and collaborates with international design companies. In the past, Benshetrit lectured in major American academic institutions in Pennsylvania, Florida and Nebraska. Today he is a member at the board of directors, of the of the Museum of Design and Art in New York (MAD).
