27.3 | Tuesday | 18:00 (GMT+3) | Maya Dvash in conversation with Aric Chen
If you're going to visit a French family and bring flowers, make sure there's an uneven number – and never red roses (lest the host think you are having an affair with his wife). In China, clocks hint at the clock of life that is running out. In Brazil, scarves symbolize mourning, and in India, white and black are unlucky colors – so never wrap gifts in those colors.
To celebrate the opening of the "Black Box" exhibition, Maya Dvash, Chief Curator of Design Museum Holon, will be holding three virtual conversations (in English) with international curators on objects, people, and the different attitudes to them from professional, social, and cultural viewpoints.
The upcoming conversation will be with curator Aric Chen.
Aric Chen is the incoming General and Artistic Director of Het Nieuwe Instituut, the institute for architecture, design and digital culture in Rotterdam. In 2019-2020, he was Co-Curator, with Maya Dvash, of “State of Extremes” at Design Museum Holon.
Currently, Chen is based in Shanghai, where he is Professor and founding Director of the Curatorial Lab at the College of Design & Innovation at Tongji University. He also currently serves as Curatorial Director for the Design Miami/ fairs in Basel and Miami Beach. From 2012-2018, he was Lead Curator for Design and Architecture at M+, the new museum for visual culture opening later this year in Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District.
