The Design Museum Holon Collection - Yaacov Kaufman

GAGA & Design (Yaacov Kaufman)
Zigi, 2009
Zinc, steel, polypropylene, epoxy

The Easy Chair consists of a steel-tube structure mounted with a synthetic Polypropylene weave. Both the steel structure and Polypropylene string are produced industrially, yet the string, which reaches 200 meters per chair, is weaved manually, in a process that requires skill and expertise. The weaving method is based on traditional Japanese rattan weaving, reworked in Kaufman's studio to fit novel, weather-resistant materials. The random pattern of the weave enhances its textile feeling, and the color-mix that dominates the seating area gives the chair a lively character.
