Colnago C35 Road Racing Bicycle - Carbon Fiber
The Colnago C35 bike was launched in 1989 in conjunction with the 35th anniversary of the Italian Colnago company, which was founded in 1954 by Ernesto Colnago. It was produced in a limited edition with gold-plated parts, yet its most dominant feature was the cast carbon fiber frame, known as a "monocoque." Carbon fiber is strong, relatively light, and absorbs shocks.
This bicycle was created in collaboration with the Ferrari company, which began using carbon fiber in its Formula 1 cars in the 1980s. Ernesto Colnago was himself a bicycle racer. After breaking his leg in an accident that ended his promising career, he began producing custommade race bicycles. He was the sponsor of several Italian riders, and his bicycles won numerous prizes and races.
