The premiere launch of the traveling exhibition New Olds will be held at Design Museum Holon.

The exhibition presents creative interpretations by contemporary designers for motifs from the past. The wide variety of works included in the exhibition indicates that these designers, most of whom are in their twenties and thirties, consider the past a source of inspiration and derive great pleasure from using an assortment of icons and symbols from various historical periods - from deer antlers, cuckoo clocks, porcelain dishes, and baroque-style objects, to Bauhaus- or Memphis-style objects. This extensive engagement with the past is also expressed in their interest in various crafts, such as weaving, embroidery, glassblowing, woodcarving, and using materials like rattan and enamel.

The exhibition presents some 70 pieces through which contemporary designers explore the connection between tradition and innovation. Their different approaches all revolve around similar subjects: materiality, assembly and configuration processes, and traditional manufacture and use. Participating in the exhibition are some 60 designers from Europe and the United States, including 18 Israeli designers.
