Design as a Catalyst for Transformation<\/strong><\/p>\n

Design Museum Holon is part of a long-standing commitment to culture and education in the city of Holon.
Design Museum Holon opened in March 2010 and quickly established itself as one of the world’s leading museums of design and contemporary culture. Housed in an iconic building by the internationally acclaimed architect, Ron Arad, Design Museum Holon is a vital and dynamic resource for designers, students, creative industries and the general public. Each year the Museum presents an exciting and varied program of exhibitions and events each dedicated to helping visitors gain a deeper understanding of design and the role it plays in our lives.<\/p>\n

The establishment of Design Museum Holon is a high point in the ongoing process of transforming the city of Holon into an epicenter of culture and education. Over the past decade, the city has introduced a wealth of edification programs, launched cultural festivals, opened new museums and introduced urban art installations, all leading to the enrichment of municipal life.<\/p>\n

The primary goals of Design Museum Holon are to inspire and challenge the design community and the general public\u2019s perception of design and the way it affects their lives.<\/p>\n

The city of Holon, under the direction of Mayor Moti Sasson and Managing Director Hana Hertsman, turned to Ron Arad, world renowned designer and architect, to create an iconic building that would provide visitors with an immersive environment in which to gain access to and explore the world of design.
Design Museum Holon would seek to embody Holon\u2019s longstanding dedication to culture and education and its desire to elevate the field of design into a leading position on the Israeli cultural agenda.<\/p>\n

The Holon municipality has invested 17 million dollars in the establishment of the Design Museum Holon and is committed to providing continued support.
Design Museum Holon will lead the international and Israeli cultural landscape.
The new museum joins the Holon Institute of Technology, Mediatheque and the National Israeli Cartoon Museum, all founded in Holon.<\/p>\n

2010 marked the first of many milestones in the journey to bring the discussion and exploration of design to the forefront. In conjunction with the museum\u2019s opening, the city of Holon was celebrating its seventieth year and featured design concepts in its many galleries, outdoor exhibition spaces and special events.<\/p>\n

Committed to pioneering a creative arena for the exploration and examination of design principles and interpretations, Design Museum Holon will serve as a leading hub for innovation in the field of design.
\nDesign Museum Holon will provide an exciting, engaging and encompassing design experience for all, regardless of age or design background. It will also foster an international dialogue highlighting the importance of quality design and its relevance to our lives, develop an interactive archive with a digital component for the theoretical and practical research of design and include a historical collection of Israeli design.<\/p>\n

True to its guiding principles, Design Museum Holon will investigate the impact and relationship of design on urban spaces and living, using the city of Holon as a case study.<\/p>\n

The Building<\/p>\n

Ron Arad Architects met the challenge of creating a structure to encompass and express the principles of design.
\nThe result: The iconic Design Museum Holon building<\/strong><\/p>\n

The highly anticipated creation by Ron Arad Architects has been four years in construction. The building’s sinuous ribbon facade of Corten weathering steel is alive, forming a blend of textural, spatial and optical experiences that seamlessly meld the principles of sculpture, architecture, design and art for the enjoyment of the public. A dialogue with visitors is fostered as they meander through the open-sky Upper Gallery or down the winding staircase from the lobby to the Lower Gallery.<\/p>\n

These will feature both contemporary and historical pieces from diverse design disciplines, including industrial, fashion, textiles and jewelry. The Design Museum Holon building itself -all 3,700
\nsquare meters of it-is the first exhibit the museum visitor encounters.<\/p>\n

More than just a box to house a collection, this fascinating structure encompasses juxtaposing gallery spaces, a design lab and an archival collection. This 750 square meters spaces will showcase exhibitions developed by international design curators.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\n\n
