The aim of the Urban Shade competition, organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Holon, is to conceptualize, plan, and build prototypes of a duplicable shading elements for an outdoor public space. These elements will constitute a tool to re-imagine the role and importance of shading in hot climates by focusing on design that creatively encourages long-term public use and interaction.
Teams of Israeli and international architects and designers are invited to submit proposals for five sites in the City of Holon. The winners will construct their proposed designs, which will be open to the public for several months. Additionally, the proposals will also be evaluated on the basis of their industrial, social, and urban feasibility as part of the aspiration to advance a comprehensive transformation of urban spaces in Israel and in other countries with similar climates.
