A visual review of Design Week Holon 2013 (27/4-31/4), all the events, the guests and activities.
Design Week Holon 2013 opened with the launch of the Israel-France Forum at Design Museum Holon. This unique forum comprised a ten-member delegation of design professionals who came to Israel especially to take part in design lectures and meetings with the aim of forming and promoting collaborations and exchange of ideas by means of direct encounters.

In the course of the day the guests presented the objectives of the institutions they represent and contributed to the atmosphere of a desire to make design accessible, and inspire a design experience in the general public by a variety of means – digital, analog, textual, and so forth.

The forum was then inaugurated in two discussion panels on design that were open to the public free of charge.
The first, which was moderated by Prof. Dana Arieli-Horowitz, with the participation of Stephane Simon, Yann Siliec, David Rawet, Tamir Shefer, Frédéric Szabo, and Yoram Morad, discussed design as a generator of economy.

The second panel then convened, which was moderated by Gal Gaon, with the participation of José Lévy, Philippe Apeloig, Lauriane Beaunier, Nissan Warschawski, Erez Bahar, Tomoaki Shimane, and Magalie Guérin, who discussed design management.

Another unique project inaugurated during Design Week Holon is “Industry Adopts Design”, which brought together Israeli designers and industrialists for the first time with the aim of creating designed furniture for the consumer, in which selected works were shown in the Museum’s Design Lab.

During Design Week Holon 2013, Israeli designers gave personal presentations to design week directors and guests of the Israel-France Forum. The designers presented their work, received critiques, answered questions, and engaged in lively debates with members of the forum.

The Israeli designers who presented their work included Maya Ober, Jonathan Canetti, Secret Artist, Gal Shenfeld-Krasowsky, Daniel Rosenthal, Noa Katorza, and many others.
During Design Week Holon admission to the Museum was free of charge courtesy of Bank Hapoalim, and many took advantage of this to visit Lady of the Daisies – A Tribute to Lea Gottlieb, which is currently showing at the Museum. There were long lines at the entrance to the Museum, which thousands of people visited during Design Week.

In the Mediatheque foyer, visitors wandered around stalls of young designers who sold a diverse variety of designed objects, from unique jewelry to cushions and textile products.

Interactive design stalls were set up in the Museum forecourt for the general public.

International design lectures were given in the course of the week. The first, given by Anu Liivak, director of the Fine Art Museum of Estonia, focused on fashion in the communist era.

The next lecture was given by Austrian designer and architect Martin Mostböck, who presented the various design, development, and manufacturing processes of the distinctive FLAXX chair for which he has received numerous international awards.

After the lectures the audience was invited to visit Design Museum Holon’s Materials Library and attend a “Portfolio Live” encounter moderated by designer and journalist Yuval Saar, with the participation of Patrick Gyger, Stephane Simon, René-Jacques Mayer, and Jean-Pierre Blanc.

Collaboration between Design Museum Holon and Cinematheque Holon produced the screening of the three-part series “Fashion!” which presents the contemporary history of the fashion industry. The screening was preceded by a discussion with the director of the series Olivier Nicklaus, and was moderated by Eyal De Leeuw.

Our thanks to all the guests, visitors, and participants, and we look forward to seeing you all at Design Week Holon 2014.
